How tall is the bean plant?

How tall is the bean plant? During Spring, Teacher Naema and tamariki planted beans in yogurt containers. The beans were growing well, and it was time to measure them. You and your friends gathered around Teacher Naema and waited for a turn to measure the plants. While waiting for your turn, you observed your friends as they counted the markings on the ruler with the help of Teacehr Naema. When it was your turn, you took the ruler from Teacher Naema and you pushed the ruler into the soil. Teacher Naema held the plant against the ruler and asked you to point the markings on the ruler and count them. Your finger moved faster than your counting. So Teacher Naema pointed the markings for you to count. As you went higher than eleven, you got quite confused with some of the numbers. Teacher Naema helped you along and counted to twenty-one. Ahmad, it was good to see that you were curious and wanting to participate in the counting activity. You are developing mathematical concep...

Developing ways to express my ideas continued

Developing ways to express my ideas continued 28 November 2019 On this day at lunch time, you took out your sandwich from your lunchbox. You noticed that it was already split. There was a cheeky looked on your face as you made it opened and closed. Teacher Maryam asked what you were doing, you said, “It's a crocodile.” 30 November 2019 During music and movement, I put on the song, Friend. This song required a child to stand in the middle of the circle, walk around inside of the circle and then choose a friend to dance with. Bukhari was chosen to stand in the middle of the circle. When it was time to choose a friend, Bukhari chose you to join him in the circle. You held his hand and started swinging the arms. It looked like you were doing a tango dance with Bukhari. You then started jumping and going round in circles with Bukhair. What an amazing dance you did with Bukhari! Ahmad, you have had expressing wonderful ideas in your play. You would express them no...

Developing ways to express my ideas

Developing ways to express my ideas Ahmad, on this day, you were taking an interest in playing basketball. You tried throwing the ball into the hoop but it missed the hoop. You tried again and again but it did not go through the hoop. You were feeling discouraged so you threw the ball carelessly at the hoop. You then rested for a short time before continuing the game. This time, you were focused and aimed for the hoop before you threw the ball with one hand. The ball missed the hoop a couple of times but the third time it went through the hoop. “Wow, Ahmad, that was a good one hand throw!” I said. You smiled shyly and tried again. The ball moved along the ring but it slipped out. You tried again and you scored it. You kept going on and on and each time the ball went through the hoop. Ahmad, you were expressing different ideas how to throw the ball into the hoop. You persevered until you could throw the ball through the hoop. Once you succeeded, you kept going and did n...

Indoor obstacle course

Indoor obstacle course It was raining in the morning. All the children had to stay inside. It was not easy to them inside as they were full of energy and were running around. The teachers quickly set an obstacle course on the mat area and got the children to sit on the step. Teacher Maha then explained and demonstrated to the children how to get through the obstacles. You and the children sat on the step waited to have a turn . When it was your turn, you took big strides as you stepped into the hoops and onto the foam tiles instead of hopping. When you were using the stilts, you were trying to move faster but you kept losing your balance and fell off a few times. You then moved slowly to keep yourself balanced and completed the all the obstacles. Ahmad, you expressed your ideas and confidence through your movement as you went through the obstacles. Those children who were behind you in the line, copied your movements as they went through the obstacles. The teachers will...

“Who wants to buy cupcakes?”

“Who wants to buy cupcakes?” Ahmad, on this day, you were playing in the sandpit. You were filling up the buckets and sand mould with sand. Bushra was calling out, “Who wants to buy my cupcake? Who wants to buy my cupcake?” Rohullah came and wanted a cupcake. Bushra said to you, “One cupcake for Rohullah.” “How many cupcakes, Rohullah?” you asked him. He put out two fingers. You gave him the cupcakes and collected money from him. You then called out but not in a big voice, “Cupcake, who wants to buy my cupcake?” Bushra said, “No, Ahmad, I will sell the cupcake. You will bake the cupcake.” You nodded. After some time, Bushra left the sandpit. You stood up and started to call out, “Who wants to buy my cupcake? Cupcake, cupcake. Who wants to buy my cupcake?” I went up to you and said, “I would like a cupcake please?” I said. You nodded and handed me a cupcake. “How much is the cupcake?” I asked. “Five dollars,” you said. I paid for the cupcake and started eating. “O...
