How tall is the bean plant?

How tall is the bean plant? During Spring, Teacher Naema and tamariki planted beans in yogurt containers. The beans were growing well, and it was time to measure them. You and your friends gathered around Teacher Naema and waited for a turn to measure the plants. While waiting for your turn, you observed your friends as they counted the markings on the ruler with the help of Teacehr Naema. When it was your turn, you took the ruler from Teacher Naema and you pushed the ruler into the soil. Teacher Naema held the plant against the ruler and asked you to point the markings on the ruler and count them. Your finger moved faster than your counting. So Teacher Naema pointed the markings for you to count. As you went higher than eleven, you got quite confused with some of the numbers. Teacher Naema helped you along and counted to twenty-one. Ahmad, it was good to see that you were curious and wanting to participate in the counting activity. You are developing mathematical concepts when you count the markings on the ruler, and also one to one correspondence. The teachers will continue to support you in having positive attitudes and competencies in literacy and numeracy which are essential for your successful learning. December 2019 Teacher Catherine
